This paper describes how we see the prospects for just a small part of holographic optics. In our opinion, CGHs have the best practical potential for the near future. For this reason, we concentrate on the methods in the design and manufacture of CGHs. In designing and making phase CGHs, we show that the best realization of their capabilities requires a fresh approach to such important problems as the correct choice of the number of phase relief gradations, accuracy evaluations and monitoring of the fabrication process. The results of our research are given.
